I posted an illustrated report on the official forum: http://aow.triumph.net/forums... />Congratz to gab for his crushing victory and very good strategic and tactical play (especially finding me on turn 6 thanks to a cartographer tent and good decisions).

Alright guys, the game has finished. Thanks everyone for playing!
It was very satisfying to slay all leaders personally ;-).

Markymark, you seemed to have some bad luck a few times at start.. What happened?

Alright, thanks!

When I downloaded the game, I got a restart message.  I hadn't played my turn yet.  I finished my turn with no battles, so I think we're good to go.  Don't know why I got the restart message; I shouldn't have.

Ok, we're good to go! The 1.7 patch is downloadable from GoG.

I'm on steam.  I'll go ahead and play the turn.  It will upgrade the version.  It'll be ready for the gog players when the version is available.

Ok, done.
I'm with Gog as well.

Jolly Joker, you are the game host now, right, since cbower is out?
Perhaps you can turn off the turn timer until the new patch goes live for GoG'ers?

Or, are we all using the same service? I use GoG.

Hi guys,

I'll be able to play tonight if a turn is ready, but next chance will be Sunday evening. I'll be away for most of the weekend.

SpiritSeeker

i see the host (creater) can change it always, then it is better with timer, because others can talk when they can not play within time. But what is when host has a Problem?

"normalized to time zone of the player that is logged in"
this shall be fact, test it.

Thank you,  i try to overwork some pages (have got tons of improvisations and have own ideas too)

I will switch it to 3 days tonight after work.

I have no problem with a three-day timer either. Luckily, no one has taken THAT long to do a turn! My hands are itching for the next turn already!

Hey Marky, I see you are working on the PlayTime column, in the player list on this webpage, great! Are the playing times displayed in local time or normalized to time zone of the player that is logged in?

No Problem, i play normally fast except on weekend (but not all weekends)
We can do a three day timer.
I see  problems because we can do no replacement (ask friend), so when someone has pc problems or vacatations, he can not solve it and his game is ruined. But okay, we need time because it is a tournament game.

Regards, Mark

Normally it wouldn't matter much, but in this case there will be a follow-up game, and it would be nice if the time between finishing the first and the last of the 4 games could be kept small, like, a month or so.

Now, I know that's hardly possible to direct or arrange, but still.

Keep also in mind that necessarily the number of players will drop with time and turns therefore will as a whole become shorter while individual turns tend to take some time.

I find it somewhat strange that the first 8 or 9 turns went down pretty fast - and now things have been slowed down so much. Without any timer and all the game can be stalled massively, so I think there should be at least something like a 3-day timer. If you can't play within 72 hours - just bite the bullet and let the AI make the turn; game must go on. If someone is 2 weeks on a holiday, is everyone supposed to wait then?

You can delay with 2 players - but with 6?

It is slow.  I don't like a one-day turn timer, but maybe three days.  If someone doesn't request an extension within three days, then let's move on.

Also, if players complete their turns quickly, then this isn't an issue.  Most of my games don't have turn timers, but they also move a lot faster than this one.

So far it seems like the group is leaning towards no timer. If that changes and the group wants a 1 day timer, I will put that on. If it goes to a 1 day timer I will probably miss a turn here or there, but I understand the time concerns, and I would accept those consequences without complaint.

Hi all,

I agree with Jolly Joker that the turn speed this week has been much too slow for my taste. But then again, I can't look into your lives and see the reasons for it!
It would be great if everyone can try really hard to make their turn within a day, or better, as soon as they can (like I do ;-)  ), but I agree with Marky that setting a hard 1-day timer could potentially ruin the game, as indeed, skipping a turn can be devastating, and give nearby players an unfair advantage. I want to beat you all and deserve it ;-)! So, I really want a fast game, but I want a fair game even more.

I think it's clear how Jolly Joker, MarkyMark and I feel about this. How about cbower, Gilafron and Blackcat?

i was away on weekend.
I think turn timer is hard, because we have no replacement.
And when you missed turns, it is the same like a kickoff and the game is destroyed. Better slow than a destroyed game. Maybe the others will win easier. But for a hard game it is better everyone can do turn.

Ok! When will you be back?

|

I'm away since Friday evening (this week).

Blackcat is from Germany too.
Playing GMT +1 (summertime)

I'm Timezone GMT +1 Summertime (+2)
Can play my turn on evening (i'm visiting friends at time)

Drat, wasn't logged in, just used the link in the mail, so last blog is by me.

I'm also GMT+1.
The only time I will be generally unable to play a turn is like 22 to 8 GMT, which means, if the American guys move late (Gilafron and cbower ARE American continent, right?), I can usually follow in the morning or in my lunch break. No idea about BLACKCAT, though.
On weekends (like now) I also tend to look a lot what happens - the game seems to have a good setup and is fun - well, right now that is. <smiletext0>

I'm GMT -6.  I play between 17 and 22 locally on nights, 8 and 22 locally on weekends.  No kids, so I'm really free on the weekends.  <smiletext0>

GMT converted times are 23 and 04 GMT on weekdays, 14 and 04 GMT on weekends.

Hi guys from tournament group 2,

Just wondering, what time zone are you in, and when you usually play?

I am at GMT+1, and can usually play between 20h and 23h. In weekends, I try to get a turn in in the mornings or afternoons as well, if my kids allow it.

I still have one week of vacation, and I find myself checking every half hour if my turn is waiting ;-). As we seem to be slowing down doing our turns, I thought it would be good for me to adjust my expectations somewhat by getting an idea of your playing schemes ;-). Game is just a bit too addictive! :-P.

Anyway, having fun! Cya!

Difficult to rate. Game was basically dominated by SpiritSeeker who did really farm XP and units (which was pretty much against the spirit of the tourney) - but obviously it's not Spirit's fault the game allows this, and since this is certainly one of the games that initiates a change of the game I cannot rate it worse than a 2. Also, the game had a lot of enjoyable aspects, and I learned something.
SpiritSeeker not only deserves the win due to his consequent XP farming, he also proved an excellent timing and judgement by avoiding an early attack on me (which would not have been that advantageous for him) and handling strategic movement superbly.
All in all, a correct result in a game that was decided when the first player fell.
